Kamloops BC will once again play host to the country’s best athletes as Canada’s Olympic selection for trampoline begins. The Tournament Capital Centre has hosted this event for the past two years alongside a Trampoline Provincial Cup and WAG invitational.International guests Brazil, China and USA have sent athletes as well.
Olympians Karen Cockburn and Rosie MacLennan along with national team members Samantha Sendel and Samantha Smith will be fighting for Canada’s one Olympic spot. Jason Burnett and Keegan Soehn seem to be the frontrunners for a men’s spot, should it be earned at the Test Event in Rio in April.
With no world championships in the Olympic year, senior athletes in tumbling and double-mini are looking to make qualifying scores for the national team in the build-up to 2017 Worlds in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Double-mini team medallists from last year’s world championships in Denmark competing this weekend include Jon Schwaiger, Kyle Carragher and Douglas Armstrong as well as Tamara O’Brien, Arden Oh and Karine Dufour.
Notable international athletes include American national team members Austin Nacey, Brandon Krzynefski and Paige Howard.
Four Chinese athletes from a club in Shanghai will be competing in trampoline, giving the Canadian audience a rare chance to see the deepest team in the world in action. Despite not being member’s of China’s world championship team, they are impressive in training with the perfect form we have come to expect from the Chinese.
In Age-group levels this competition serves as the first trial for the Indo Pacific Championships which will be held in Napier New Zealand in October
Competition is held along the British Columbia Provincial Cup, giving BC’s provincial athletes the chance to see their Olympic heroes in action.
