Best of The West Underway in Richmond

One of the largest gymnastics meets in British Columbia is happening this weekend at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Hosted by Delta Gymnastics Society and Gymnastics BC, the Best of the West Gymnastics Fest is essentially four events in one. The Western Canadian Championships feature provincial teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon and NWT.  The Delta Invitational  has been a long standing competition that attracts competitors from Interclub to JO 8. This year athletes from as far away as Ontario are attending.

Sunday will feature the BC Gymnaestrada- a celebration of gymnastics as a performance and a life-sport. Performance teams from across  Canada are in attendance including The Dynamos of Edmonton, with an average age of  70!

The finale of the festival is the Cash and Carry Cup- a unique competition where athletes of different levels compete together and win prize money. Overall 1800 athletes will be performing at the Oval.

Competition began yesterday and continues throughout the weekend. Gymnaestrada is sold out but if you’re in the Vancouver area it’s going to be worth your while to come out and see a session or two and support gymnastics in BC!

Gymspired Media is providing continuing coverage on Instagram and Twitter and video will be available on YouTube after the conclusion of the competition.

Pac Rims, BC Champs and Future Plans

Gymspired Media has had a busy month and momentum is building! As we prepare to offer videography sales at competitions let’s take a look back on the last month since Canada Cup.

April 8-10 we covered the Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships in Everett WA. on behalf of Trampoline Pundit. Highlights of our coverage included a live-blog for finals and interviews with every trampoline medallist…

and even a few artistic gymnasts too…

The very next weekend we were in Langley BC doing social media, video and a summary article for Gymnastics BC

For three straight days we provided non-stop coverage on Instagram and Facebook, highlighting the all-around winners and featuring quick video and photo updates. Many champions were interviewed about their competition experience and several hundred routines were recorded. Chosen clips will be featured in three highlight videos to be posted this week. One for each discipline- WAG, MAG and TG. A “teaser” highlight video was released during the competition.

Next month is gong to be even busier with coverage of Best of the West Gymnastics Fest  in Richmond BC,  USA Gymnastics Championships of Trampoline and Tumbling in Providence RI and USTA Nationals in Knoxville TN. And those are just the confirmed events- there may be more to come!

2016 Trampoline Canada Cup

Kamloops BC will once again play host to the country’s best athletes as Canada’s Olympic selection for trampoline begins. The Tournament Capital Centre has hosted this event for the past two years alongside a Trampoline Provincial Cup and WAG invitational.International guests Brazil, China and USA have sent athletes as well.

Olympians Karen Cockburn and Rosie MacLennan along with national team members Samantha Sendel and Samantha Smith will be fighting for Canada’s one Olympic spot. Jason Burnett and Keegan Soehn seem to be the frontrunners for a men’s spot, should it be earned at the Test Event in Rio in April.

With no world championships in the Olympic year, senior athletes in tumbling and double-mini are looking to make qualifying scores for the national team in the build-up to 2017 Worlds in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Double-mini team medallists from last year’s world championships in Denmark competing this weekend include Jon Schwaiger, Kyle Carragher and Douglas Armstrong as well as Tamara O’Brien, Arden Oh and Karine Dufour.

Notable international athletes include American national team members Austin Nacey,  Brandon Krzynefski and Paige Howard.

Four Chinese athletes from a club in Shanghai will be competing in trampoline, giving the Canadian audience a rare chance to see the deepest team in the world in action. Despite not being member’s of China’s world championship team, they are impressive in training with the perfect form we have come to expect from the Chinese.

In Age-group levels this competition serves as the first trial for the Indo Pacific Championships which will be held in Napier New Zealand in October

Competition is held along the British Columbia Provincial Cup, giving BC’s provincial athletes the chance to see their Olympic heroes in action.

Happy Canadian Gymnastics Week!

February 6-13 is Canadian Gymnastics Week, and it’s a busy week for Gymspired Media! Last weekend we covered the Aaron Johnson Memorial Cup- one of the British Columbia trampoline competitions for athletes to qualify for Western Canada Cup and Canadian Championships. This weekend we are covering our first ever rhythmic gymnastics competition, Elite Canada in Richmond.

Gymnastics Canada wants to know why you love gymnastics so we asked around at the AJM Cup. Athletes, coaches, parents and judges tell us why they love our sport. The answers vary but one thing is for sure.. gymnastics unites people of all ages and backgrounds in their love for the sport.

BC Championships a Huge Success!

Last month Gymspired Media Services covered the BC Gymnastics Championships for Gymnastics BC. Camera in hand, Catherine filmed as many routines as possible over the three day, 600 gymnast event. Every session, from compulsories to High Performance received some coverage- no small feat with either 8 or 10 events going on at the same time.
Champions were photographed and interviewed for quotes on Gymnastics BC’s publication Layout magazine and a series of promo videos were made. Now, the routines that were filmed are being featured in this playlist.
Starting with the feature videos and National level MAG and WAG, I’ll be adding to it with notable routines from all categories

The competition was a success for the athletes, for Gymnastics BC and for Gymspired- this was my first contract! The year of volunteering has paid off! Hopefully there is going to be much more of this on the future. I really believe all levels of gymnastics need the coverage. I'l be back out on the floor again next weekend at the BC Trampoline Championships in Port Moody.
